Manazir Journal

About the Journal

Manazir Journal is a peer-reviewed academic open access journal dedicated to visual arts, architecture and cultural heritage in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region). Every issue focuses on a specific theme defined and proposed by one or several guest editors responsible for the issue. Manazir Journal accepts proposals for issues published in English, French, German and Italian and is also open to languages of the MENA region, such as Arabic, Persian, and Turkish. The first issue was published in October 2019.

The journal is linked to Manazir – Swiss Platform for the Study of Visual Arts, Architecture and Heritage in the MENA, a platform of exchange that aims to connect researchers interested in these themes in Switzerland. The term “Manazir” refers to landscape, perspective, and point of view in Arabic, Ottoman Turkish and Persian. Thus, Manazir Journal is oriented toward a diversity of transcultural and transdisciplinary “landscapes” and “points of views” and open to a multiplicity of themes, epochs, and geographical areas. It is a non-hierarchical platform that connects scholars, PhD candidates and art professionals to give higher national and international visibility to a rich yet relatively unknown field. The Platform disseminates information regarding conferences, workshops, publications, and exhibitions taking place in Switzerland and is associated with the Swiss Society Middle East and Islamic Civilization (SSMOCI/SGMOIK), which is a member of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (ASSH/SAGW).

Manazir Journal is Platinum/Diamond Open Access journal (BOAI) and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0). It is hosted by Bern Open Publishing (BOP). Manazir Journal endeavors to ensure the high quality of its content (COPE) and is committed to publish only original material. All articles undergo a peer review process.
