Internships
Although the Institute’s study plan does not require the completion of an internship (with the exception of Monomaster 'Monument Preservation and Monument Management' and Monomaster 'History of Textile Arts'), we strongly recommend that students deepen their experience by undertaking one. Through internships, career perspectives can be developed at an early stage and they open up insights into occupational fields beyond teaching and research. During your studies, practical work is offered in museums, monument preservation, journalism or in the art trade. Please note that only internships at institutions relevant to art history can be credited. If you are unsure whether this applies to an institution, please contact the IKG’s director of the master program. Internships with private individuals or one-person businesses, as well as regular paid jobs, cannot be credited. In line with the VKKS position paper on internships from 2012, the IKG advocates appropriate remuneration for internships, e.g., in accordance with cantonal salary guidelines.

Crediting excursions and internships
The crediting of excursions and internships for the art history degree program is stipulated in the curriculum. One week of internship (100%) corresponds to one ECTS credit. In principle, up to half of the ECTS credits required for excursion days can be replaced by internships.
In the master's program “Monument Preservation and Monument Management,” after completing the four-week mandatory internship (100%), a maximum of 4 additional ECTS credits in the area of ‘excursions’ can be credited from the same internship. In the master's program “History of Textile Arts,” the internship can be credited either in the “excursions” or in the Minor's application area.
Please enclose with your application a written confirmation from the art institution stating the duration, degree of employment and grade as well as a two to four-page report describing your activities and findings. Please send your request for recognition to Mr Jakob Weber.
