Master examinations

Please be sure to consult the relevant articles “Individual Studies” (Eigenständiges Studium) and “Oral exam” (Fachprüfung) in the department’s current “Study Plan”. These explain the details and form of the exam for the various courses of study in the Institute of Art History (IKG) including minor, major, and monomaster programs. Exam topics are decided upon with the examiner directly. The exam aims to ensure that the students are familiar with basic concepts of art history as well as more specialized topics. These topics include two themes based on lectures and seminars of one study field for art history minors, and three for majors in the department, drawn from the specialized area in which the student has written his/her MA thesis. For students in specialized mono-master programs, the exam topics must also include an element drawn from the student’s specific practical research field (Anwendungsbereich bzw. Forschungsschwerpunkt).
