New SNF Project: “The Inheritance of Looting: Medieval Trophies to Modern Museums”
Starting 1 January 2023, the Department of Premodern Art will begin its work on a new SNF-funded research project: “The Inheritance of Looting: Medieval Trophies to Modern Museums” (01/23-12/26). Led by Prof. Dr. Beate Fricke, the project team is an interdisciplinary group of professors, curators, pre- and post-docs, and game designers, all of whom will realize a virtual exhibition about how artworks plundered in the Middle Ages have been displayed and (mis)interpreted through time to become defined as cultural heritage. Key collaborators include Susan Marti (Bern Historical Museum), Jimmy Schmid (University of the Arts Bern), and Andrew Sears (University of Bern).
